What is Data Analysis?

Data analysis is the process of converting raw data into meaningful information using various qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. 

The information is then used to make informed decisions, including influencing current policies and improving products and services. Data analysis is rigorous and time consuming. Done wrongly or incompletely, the conclusions derived from the erroneous analysis can render an entire study meaningless or useless.

Aligning Study with Analysis

The type of analysis must be aligned with the nature of your study and the research methodology. The data analysis techniques differ depending on each.

Nature of study can either be:

1. Qualitative –  which involves identifying patterns and themes within the collected data using techniques like thematic analysis.
2. Quantitative – which involves analyzing the data using various statistical techniques such as regression, path modeling and factor analysis. 
3. Mixed methods approach utilizes both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
